Hornets? Pelicans? |
Founded in 1988, this team was originally based on Charlotte and named Charlotte Hornets. After years of struggle, the team drafted power forward Larry Johnson in 1991 and center Alonzo Mourning in 1992. These two players helped Hornets get its first playoff berth in franchise history.
In 2002, the Hornets moved to New Orleans and started to use current name. After a disappointed season with a franchise-worst record of 18–64, the team used its first round pick to select point guard Chris Paul in 2005. When hurricane Katrina attacked southeastern Louisiana and destroyed Hornets' base, the team was temporarily moved to Oklahoma City, played home games at the Ford Center. During the time, the team had named New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.
On December 14, 2011, the Hornets agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers and sent Paul to Los Angeles in exchange for Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Farouq Aminu, and a first-round draft pick. On May 30, the Hornets were awarded the first overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. In the 2012 Draft, the Hornets drafted Anthony Davis from the University of Kentucky with the 1st pick. They also drafted Austin Rivers from Duke University, with the 10th pick.
Anyway, it seems to be true that the Hornets will rename to Pelicans next season. Rumors also said Micheal Jordan, former NBA player and majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, is willing to bring the name"Hornets" back to Charlotte.
Here I collect some Hornets wallpapers in different periods. They can also be used as PowerPoint backgrounds. Enjoy!
