The 14th Paralympics are
being held between August 29th to September 9th. London, the host city of 2012 Summer Olympic
Games, is opening her arms to welcome nearly 4,000 Paralympics athletics from
147 countries.
The opening ceremony of Paralympics was started at 20:30 British Summer Time on 29th August. This show, named
Enlightenment, started with a speech of the great British physicist, Stephen
Hawking. Then a disabled actress portrayed Miranda from Shakespeare's The Tempest and
began to explore her way of life. Nearly three hours later, all the athletics
arrived into the London Bowl Stadium. The Queen made a speech and announced the
opening of the Games. The last and most important thing was the ceremony of lighting
the Paralympics Cauldron. An 84-year old lady named Margaret Maughan, the first
Paralympics gold medalist for Great
Britain, finally lit the Paralympics
Cauldron. As we know from the pictures, the Paralympics Cauldron shares
the same design with the Summer Olympic Games.
People may pay less attention to the
Paralympics than Olympic Games, but there are still some highlights for
us to concert. One of them is Oscar Pistorius, a disabled runner from South Africa who owns cool alias as "Blade runner" or "The fastest
man on no legs". Pistorius participated Olympics Games and
shocked the whole world last month. Now he's ready for the games in Paralympics.
Here I collected some wallpapers from the Internet, most of them are themes of Paralympics opening ceremony while the others are about Oscar Pistorius. These wallpapers are also available for PowerPoint backgrounds. Anyway, enjoy watching the Paralympics!
