The Hobbit is an upcoming fantasy-adventure movie series based on J.R.R. Tolkein's novel books of the same name. This film series is directed, co-written and produced by Peter Jackson. It contains 3 episodes: An Unexpected Journey (2012), The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and There and Back Again (2014).

As the prequel trilogy of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, many actors returns and reprises their roles: Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Christopher Lee, Ian Holm, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, etc.

The story happens 60 years earlier than The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It tells an adventure of Bilbo Baggins (portrayed by Martin Freeman), a hobbit who is hired by wizard Gandalf to accompany 13 dwarves on a quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain and its treasure from the dragon Smaug.

The first episode An Unexpected Journey will hit theater on December 14. World Premiere of the movie will be held in New Zealand on November 28.
