A Method for Playing PowerPoint on HTC First

How to play PowerPoint on HTC First
HTC First
HTC First is an Android smartphone introduced on April 4. What makes it unique is the pre-installation of Facebook Home, a deep customized app instead of prioritizing apps like other phone interfaces. By doing this, the app can provide a more personal experience to Facebook users. The HTC First smartphone with Facebook Home optimization will be sold via AT&T on April 12, priced at $99.99. Moreover, the Facebook Home app will also be available for specific phone models, like HTC One X, One X+ and the upcoming HTC One, as well as Samsung’s Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note II and new Galaxy S4.

Specs
There’s not much to say about HTC First’s hardware. It has a 4.3-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixels of resolution and 341ppi. Powered by a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor, the phone has 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in storage. Unfortunately the storage is non-expandable. For cameras, the HTC First has a 5MP rear one and a 1.2MP front one respectively, which are good enough for shooting daily life photos/videos and sharing them on Facebook.

Highlights
Two new features are brought by the Facebook Home app: Cover Feed and Chat Heads.

Cover Feed is what users see when they turn on the phone. It not only shows time and background but also displays photos and descriptions from Facebook friends. Updated statuses are shown on the upper side, so that users can easily scroll the screen to view photos, like them or leave comments.

Chat Heads is a communication interface. When users receive a message, no matter if it’s a SMS or Facebook notification, the sender’s Facebook profile picture can be shown in an icon on the screen. Users can chat with the sender by touching the icon.

As we mentioned above, the HTC First is a deep customized smartphone. Facebook lovers may use it to keep themselves “online forever”. To think further, this phone is not only designed for entertainment, it can do something else. Let’s say, how to play PowerPoint on HTC First?

As an Android device, there are several ways to show PowerPoint on HTC First. For instance, we can convert PPT to PDF, images or use an Android PowerPoint app. However, by using the methods above, some PowerPoint elements and effects like transitions, background music and animations are no longer unavailable. To display PPT on HTC First perfectly, users can convert PowerPoint to HTC First suitable videos, so that they can watch these videos on the phone with PowerPoint effects and elements remained.

Life Companion from Samsung, Enjoy Playing PowerPoint on Galaxy S4

Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung has just unveiled its brand new flagship, the Galaxy S4 on March 14 at a stage dramatic event. On the stage, this handset is positioned as the "life companion". With similar design to Galaxy S3, the new S4 will ship in 155 countries next month.

Specs
The Galaxy S4 has a good and large screen: a 4.99-inch full-HD Super AMOLED display with 1080*1920 pixels of resolution and 441 ppi. Reports before the event indicated that the phone's case is made of plastic, comes up with a 1.8 GHz Exynos 5410 Octa processor and runs Android 4.2.1. It also has 2GB of RAM, 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage with MicroSD card expandation. For cameras, this gadget has a 13MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing one. A massive 2600 mAh battery is also equipped to provide longer stand-by time.

Highlights
  • Camera features. A dozen of new camera features are introduced. For example, the Dual Camera record feature allows users to use two cameras at the same time. The Sound and Shot feature can record a 5-second audio before taking a pic.
  • Air View. With the help of the Air View feature, users can scroll through pages with a wave of their hand, other than touching the screen with fingers or stylus.
  • S Translator. This feature supports translation among 9 languages, enables to convert voice and words.
  • Smart Switch. A feature that transfers data to PC and then restores it to another S4. (like apple's iTunes?)
  • Samsung Knox. Similar to BlackBerry Balance, the Samsung Knox is for users to switch modes between Life and Work simply.
  • Eye tracking. The Galaxy S4 supports eye tracking feature. That is, the phone plays videos as usual while user's eyes stare at the screen, otherwise it stops automatically. Samsung's competitor, LG, has brought similar software to its Optimus G Pro as well.
Watch PowerPoint on Galaxy S4
The Samsung Galaxy S4 is really an omnipotent gadget for users, isn't it? With lots of innovative technologies integrated, the Galaxy S4 is tough enough to compete with iPhone 5 and even upcoming iPhone 6. So, does this phone has weakness?
Play PowerPoint on Galaxy S4

As an Android based gadget, its system can't be as fluent as iOS yet, let alone the malware hidden in Android apps. Moreover, it could be a little difficult to view PowerPoint on Galaxy S4. Usually users show PPT on Android devices with Office apps, but these apps can't totally remain some PowerPoint elements, such as background music, animations and transition. As an alternative of Office apps, a PowerPoint to Galaxy S4 video converter can be used to solve the problem. By converting PowerPoint files to mobile suitable video formats, users can play PPT on Galaxy S4's HD display without difficulty.

View PowerPoint on Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0
Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, a new eight-inch Galaxy tablet was introduced during MWC 2013. This one is a smaller version of the Galaxy Note 10.1, with an uprated specification and improved built-in stylus.

Specifications
Compared with Note 10.1's 1.4 GHz processor, the new Note 8.0 is powered by a faster 1.6 GHz quad-core model. The tablet is 335g in weight, which is lighter than 597g of Note 10.1, makes it more convenient to carry around.

As the name mentioned, the Note 8.0 comes up with a 8.0-inch TFT display, featuring 1280 * 800 pixels resolution and 189ppi.

As to other specs, the gadget has 2GB of RAM with 16/32GB of ROM. It also provides a microSD slot, which is able to expand the memory up to 64GB. The tablet has a 5MP rear camera with AF (lacks flash) and a 1.3MP front-facing camera. A massive 4600 mAh battery is also equipped. The tablet runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, BTW.

Highlights
Same as the Note 10.1, this Note 8.0 is S-Pen stylus equipped. Thanks to the Android 4.1 OS, several stylus -specific functions are available: pressure-sensitivity and windows that pop up over whatever app you're currently using to help you take a quick note.

Multiscreen is another highlight of the Note 8.0. users can launch two apps at the same time and make them sit side-by-side on the screen. Only 6 apps support Multiscreen function on the previous Note 10.1, but now the amount has increased to 20 for the Note 8.0. This is a meaningful improvement since people would love to deal with different tasks at the same time on a tablet.

Watch PowerPoint on Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0
As an Android based tablet, there are several ways to play PowerPoint on Galaxy Note 8.0. Although users can download some Office apps from Google Play, such as Kingsoft Office, Documents To Go, etc. But the PowerPoint effects (animations, transitions) can't be shown on these mobile apps.

In my opinion, an effective way to show PowerPoint on Galaxy Note 8.0 is to convert PPT to suitable video format. By using a free-download PowerPoint to video converter, users can easily watch the converted videos on the Note 8.0 with PPT effects remained.

Highlights of the new OS

Despite the lack of big surprises from both smartphones, there are some highlights brought to BB fans by the BlackBerry 10 OS.

BlackBerry Peek and BlackBerry Hub. BlackBerry 10 supports multitask by sliding to open or minimize an app. With the help of BlackBerry Peek, user can view series of information on BlackBerry Hub by sliding from the left edge of screen to the right. As to the BlackBerry Hub, it's an integrated interface with messaging, social content, etc.

BlackBerry Hub
BlackBerry Hub
BlackBerry Balance. A function allows user to switch modes between Life and Work with a simply gesture. Wallpapers, apps and even content from app store could be customized in the 2 modes.
BlackBerry Balance
BlackBerry Balance
BlackBerry Messenger. The BBM is similar to apple's FaceTime and Google's GTalk. It's a function which supports live video chat, as well as projects screen to receiver remotely to show apps, pics, etc.
BBM
BlackBerry Remember. A place to keep on top of all user's files, tasks and notes. It is integrated right into the BlackBerry Hub. User can flag messages, assign due dates, take voice notes, add attachments and pull in contacts. It also integrates with Evernote account to bring all notes into one simple BlackBerry Remember app.
BlackBerry Remember
Apps. The BlackBerry company also announced there are currently more than 70,000 apps available for BlackBerry 10. This should be the most ever for a new device, compared with iOS, Android and WP8 gadgets. (But I still wonder if there are some suitable apps to watch PowerPoint on BlackBerry Z10 & Q10, other than using built-in Documents To Go app)

Conclusion

The company has made up its mind to catch up with iPhone and Android phones in the market. As HLNtv said, BlackBerry is like dinosaurs, there was a time when they ruled the earth. Now they’re just hoping to avoid the same fate. Take a look at the global smartphone market share in 2012, iOS and Android still lead. Besides BB diehards, I can't find a reason for other people to change their iPhone/Android phone to a BlackBerry.

10.1-Inch Budget Android Tablet, Viewing PPT on Polaroid M10

Polaroid M10
Polaroid is a company who's famous for its cameras. When people talk about this brand nowadays, most of them may not remind themselves of Android devices, let alone Android tablets. The company firstly announced a 7-inch tablet named M7 this year. After that, another larger Android based tablet, Polaroid M10, has also debuted at CES 2013.

The Polaroid M10 comes with a 10.1-inch IPS display in 1280 x 800 pixels. Visual angle of the screen is improved on the premise of high visual quality. The M10 is powered by a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor and  has 1 GB of RAM. The tablet runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

As to other specs, the M10 has a 2.0 MP front-facing camera. There's also a 5.0 MP one on the back side, which supports HD video shooting. Moreover, The tablet provides a SIM card slot, a microSD card slot and a microHDMI video output interface, helps user connect it to a more suitable display device.

One important thing to be noted about the Polaroid M10: Despite the newest Android 4.1 is running on the tablet, it's not the true meaning of a "with Google" device. Therefore some Android apps may be unavailable on the device. I wonder if user can play PowerPoint on Polaroid M10 since Office suite is such a frequently-used app for daily life.

Priced at budget $229 and to be released in early 2013, the tablet doesn't have high configurations like any other Android tablets, but the brand of Polaroid and a reasonable price can also make it competitive enough.

Full HD 5-Inch Display, Enjoy Playing PowerPoint on Oppo Find 5

Random question: How many smartphone brands can you list in 30 seconds without searching on Google? Apple, Samsung, Motorola, LG, Sony, Nokia, htc... Well, perhaps you're familiar with these international brands just because you not only hear about them but probably use their products.
Oppo Find 5
The Oppo Find 5
Today I'm not planning to talk about the above brands. Along with the popularity of open-sourced Android, more and more formerly unpopular manufacturers start to produce their smartphones, one of them is Oppo, a Chinese company. Last month, Oppo announced a new phone model named Find 5, which will be sold in China at the end of January.

For specifications, the Oppo Find 5 is equipped with a 5.0-inch IPS LCD screen with 1080 x 1920 pixels and outstanding 441 ppi. It's powered by a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm APQ8064 quad-core, graphics are crunches by an Adreno 320 GPU. This handset has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of build-in storage (no microSD slot). As to cameras, the phone comes with a 13 MP rear camera with dual LED and a 1.9 MP front-facing one. A 2500 mAh battery keeps the lights on and Android 4.1.2 is installed on the machine.
Oppo Find 5
The Oppo Find 5
The Oppo Find 5 has quite lots of highlights: the extremely fast quad-core CPU, 3.25 mm super-thin bezel, most advanced camera and the high-end "Dirac HD" audio sound systems. Of course, the most important one that catches my eyes is its large screen. As Oppo's official website says, the high-definition display "allows you to experience a world of crystal clarity and the most realistic colors". It could be an enjoyment of watching HD movies or viewing PowerPoint on Oppo Find 5.

According to gizchina's report, the Oppo Find 5 will be available in China on January 29. The 16 GB version is priced at 2,998 yuan ($485) while the 32 GB version is 3,298 yuan ($530). Moreover, as what Oppo said last month, the model would also be sold in North America and Europe soon (probably Q1), at $500 for the 16 GB version and $570 for the 32 GB version in the USA market.

Rumor: Upcoming Nexus 5 and Nexus 7.7 Specs Leaked

Previously we heard news that LG has halted Nexus 4 production and gets ready for development of next gen Nexus device. Now new rumor spreads out from Korean media, leaks specs and price of this unconfirmed device, along with the successor of Nexus 7. It's said the next gen Nexus phone and tablet would be called Nexus 5 and Nexus 7.7 respectively. Both devices are believed to be announced at Google I/O (May 15th - 17th). The Nexus phone manufacturer, LG, would unveil its latest flagship --- Optimus G2 at MWC 2013 next month.

For specifications, the Nexus 5 comes with a 5-inch 1080p display with 440 ppi. Powered by a quad-core Tegra 4 processor, the phone has 2 GB of RAM, a 13 MP rear camera and a 3 MP front-facing one. It also runs newest Android 5.0 (Key Lime Pie) OS.
LG Nexus 4

For price issues, Google may continue the price strategy of Nexus 4. That is: $299 for 8 GB version and $349 for 16 GB version. If all of the specs and price rumors are true,we can imagine the Nexus 5 could be more popular than its predecessor.

Rumor also mentions a new tablet, the Nexus 7.7 (I wonder if it's made by Asus or LG). This machine is equipped with a 7.7-inch display in 1920 * 1200 pixels resolution and 294 ppi. It has the same processor, RAM, ROM and OS as the Nexus 5. Both cameras are 720p. As to the price, the 8 GB version of Nexus 7.7 is priced at $299.
Asus Nexus 7
Nexus 4, Google's currently co-branded phone,is always out of stock on Google Play in many countries. Customers who pre-orderd the phone have to wait a couple of weeks for shipping. Therefore, both Google and LG are criticized for their capacity. It's also reported that LG has only produced less than 400, 000 units of Nexus 4 in past 3 months. I wonder why Google continues to choose LG as the manufacturer of Nexus devices. Have you guys seen Sony's Xperia Z? What an impressive model at CES. Google should have chosen Sony other than LG, I think.

Rumor: iPad 5 & iPad Mini 2 to Roll Out in March?

It seems the product line of apple's iPad basically upgrades twice in one year. Based on the latest rumor, the new generation full-sized iPad and iPad mini would be announced in March 2013. Brian White,an analyst of Topeka Capital Markets, claimed that he got the inside news from partners who participated in CES 2013. If true, the new products' launching is only 5 months later than the previous gen.

White said the brand new iPad 5 could be lighter and thinner than iPad 4 (iPad with Retina display). It'll be powered by a new A6X processor, continue to use Lightning connector and keep the design of 3rd gen iPad (new iPad). As to the 2nd gen iPad mini, there would't be large modifications, but some components would be upgraded, for instance a faster processor.

The rumor above didn't mention any news about displays. However, according to a report last month, apple is supposed to provide a higher definition display for the next gen iPad mini. So we have no further information about the display issues.

The apple company has been absent from the show since 1992, White didn't mention the source of the insider news detailedly neither. Last week he also claimed that apple is planning to launch new iPhones with different sizes and more case colors in May or June, other than the current black or white iPhone 5.

Currently the World's Slimmest Smartphone: Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra

Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra
What keywords can you describe those smartphones shown at CES 2013? 5-inch screen? Or quad-core processor? And what highlight of a phone can catch your eyes and easily help you tell it apart from other similar products? A larger screen? Or waterproof performance? Alcatel, the French device manufacturer, shows up a new handset to audience: One Touch Idol Ultra, currently the most thinnest smartphone in the world.

BBK Vivo X1, the former slimmest smartphone, is 6.55 mm in thickness. Now the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra beats its predecessor by 0.1 mm thinner, becomes the new record holder.

The One Touch Idol Ultra is just 6.45 mm thick and comes with a 4.7-inch 720p AMOLED display, a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM and an 8.0 MP rear camera. The phone runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Alcatel also announces another 2 new models: the One Touch Idol and the One Touch Scribe HD. For the One Touch Idol, it's not as thin as the Ultra one, but Alcatel claims that this handset is "the lightest smartphone in its category" for its 110 grams in weight. This phone also runs Jelly Bean and has a 4.7-inch display, though it's an IPS one other than an AMOLED.
Alcatel One Touch Idol
As to One Touch Scribe HD, the 5-inch model among the three, is the first device which utilizes MediaTek's MT6589 quad-core processor. This chip is able to make the smartphone a solid way to enjoy graphics-intensive games and apps.
Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD
These three phones will be available in China this month. Only the One Touch Scribe HD is planning to be sold in the US for Q2 2013. The projected price of One Touch Idol Ultra will be $444, the One Touch Scribe HD will be $397. The last and lighter One Touch Idol's price is currently unconfirmed.

CES 2013: 5-Inch Sony Xperia Z Announced, Supports Battery STAMINA Mode

Sony Xperia Z
After a long time of waiting, Sony finally announced its brand new flagship: the Xperia Z smartphone at CES 2013. This gadget has a 5-inch 1080p screen, a quad-core S4 Pro processor, a 13 MP camera and 4G LTE. What makes it special is the IP55 and IP57 dustproof and waterproof performance. What's more, the Sony Xperia Z supports a Battery STAMINA Mode, in which is 4 times runtime than in normal mode.

Specifications
  • Dimensions: 139 * 71 * 7.9 mm
  • Weight: 146g
  • Display: 5-inch 1080p display
  • OS: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, able to upgrade to 4.2 version
  • Processor: 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon
  • RAM: 2GB
  • ROM: 16GB
  • Connectivity: 4G LTE, HSPA+
  • WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC supported
  • Cameras: a 13 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front facing camera
  • Battery: 2,330 mAh non-removable battery
  • Release date: Q1, 2013
  • Price: Unknown
Highlights

1080p display with BRAVIA Engine 2. Seems like a 5'' or even larger display has become the standard configuration for flagships nowadays. Look at those big screen monsters at CES 2013: Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD, Huawei Ascend Mate, ZTE Grand S, etc. And what makes the Xperia Z difference is the screen processing software from Sony’s HDTV range, Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2. This technology does real-time processing to make video content more bright, colorful and engaging on the 5'' TFT LCD HD Reality Display. Sounds sweet, right? It should be very comfortable to watch HD movies or play PowerPoint on Xperia Z, I think.
5-inch display with BRAVIA Engine 2
Battery STAMINA Mode. Equipped with a 2,330 mAh battery, the Xperia Z supports 14 hours  of UMTS talktime or up to 510 hours of LTE standby. Besides normal mode, an energy saving option called Battery STAMINA Mode was added to the phone as well. When Battery STAMINA Mode is turned on, background data will be turned off while the screen is turned off. User can manually select specific apps to a white list and makes them active, system will also learn user's habbit. When STAMINA mode is turned on, runtime can be extended up to 4 times.

IP55 and IP57 dust and water resistance. The Xperia Z is able to survive in clean water for up to 30 minutes without any problems.
Sony Xperia Z in the water
Aluminum power button. Sony's research found that the power button is average pressed by user 64 times per day, so an Aluminum made button would be more durable.

Variation. As the previous reports, the Sony Xperia Z has a variation model: Xperia ZL (former name Xperia X). The ZL model shares almost all of the specifications as the regular Xperia Z, but it's shorter, thicker and not waterproof. Which model with carriers would be available for the US market is currently unknown.
Xperia Z (left) and Xperia ZL
Sony hopes the flagship can put the company back on one of the top manufacturers on smartphone market. If the price strategy is reasonable, the Xperia Z could be a hot-selling gadget in this year. Furthermore, I think Google could picked Sony for the latest Nexus devices, just like last year's LG Nexus 4.
